1. Anderson Silva (25-4)
There is not much more you can say about the UFC middleweight champion, his title defence on Saturday could be his 11th straight victory. With Anderson Silva’s flirting with 205 it is often said he will soon have to fight a top 3 fighter, be interesting to see if Shogun beats Silva’s friend Machida will he be set up to fight Shogun?
2. Georges St. Pierre (20-2)
GSP has all but cleared out the welterweight division since becoming title holder. There are suggestions a super fight is in the plans with Anderson Silva but cannot see GSP being able to step up to middleweight so easily as he is even today still a smaller welterweight.
3. Fedor Emelianenko (31-1, 1 NC)
The Strikeforce heavyweight has always been suggested as an unbeatable heavyweight since Pride, however with the beasts fighting in the UFC it would be inteeresting to see Fedor make the step up in competition.
4. Lyoto Machida (16-0)
Machida the UFC light heavyweight champion has still to defeat Shogun Rua in many people’s eyes has the chance at Machida Rua 2 at UFC 113 on May 8th.
5. B.J. Penn (15-5-1)
The best lightweight fighter to have graced MMA also defends his title on Saturday at UFC 112. If Penn wins it is widely suggested he will step up to welterweight for a new challenge. Personally speaking I still think he is really number 2 pound for pound fighter.
6. Jose Aldo (16-1)
Jose Aldo current WEC featherweight title holder takes on everyone’s favourite WEC fighter Urijah Faber on April 24th. Aldo has gone on an incredible 9 fight win streak. Former featherweight title Faber is confident, this is many hardcore MMA’s fight of the month.
7. Jon Fitch (22-3, 1 NC)
Often overlooked at welterweight Jon Fitch is widely known as number 2 in the division. Fitch who had a 9 fight win streak beat Ben Saunders at UFC 111, has his rearranged fight against Thiago Alves at UFC 115 on June 12th.
8. Mike Thomas Brown (22-5)
Mike Brown is the former WEC featherweight title holder. Recently beaten by Jose Aldo on November 18th last year. Brown fights another featherweight contender Manvel Gamburyan at WEC 48, this is slated as the next number one contender.
9. Thiago Alves (16-6)
Alves after his surgery which made him pull out of his UFC 111 fight against Jon Fitch, he has now signed to fight his rematch with Fitch. Alves has beaten everyone in the welterweight division apart from Fitch and champion GSP.
10. Shinya Aoki (23-4, 1 NC)
Widely consider the number two lightweight in MMA fights Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez in ten days at Strikeforce Nashville. Aoki is widely known as for his previous fight Mizuto Hirota where he broke his opponents arm with hammerlock.
