1. Anderson Silva (25-4)
Current UFC middleweight champion is definitely the number one pound for pound fighter around in MMA. His flirting with light heavyweight has only happened twice but both times destroyed his opponents. If he defends his title against Demian Maia at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi he will be pushed to go back up. Mentioned by many as a possible dual weight champion he scares all light heavyweights.
2. Georges St. Pierre (19-2)
The current UFC welterweight champ, is defending his title against Dan Hardy at the end of this month at UFC 111. GSP has defended his title three times. With a win over Hardy it is highly suggested he might have to start fighting up at middleweight. Still discounts the step up and a third fight against lightweight champ BJ Penn.
3. Fedor Emelianenko (31-1, 1 NC)
World known heavyweight known as Fedor has scared many heavyweights over the years, he is currently fighting in Strikeforce and defending his WAMMA heavyweight title. He known for destroying fighters in Pride and Affliction. Many question his absence away from the UFC but if he wants to be known as one of the true greats he must jump over to the stacked heavyweight UFC division.
4. Lyoto Machida (16-0)
The current light heavyweight UFC champion comes fourth in the poll, he comes off a questionable victory over Shogun Rua at UFC 104. He is still unbeaten and his Karate stance has unsettle all opponents to date. Many say you are not a true champion until you defend your title so will be interesting to see if he can defend his title in style with the rematch against Shogun at UFC 113 pencilled in for May 8th.
5. B.J. Penn (15-5-1)
The long term lightweight UFC champion BJ Penn comes in third, he has defended his title against all comers, defences include Diego Sanchez, Kenny Florian, Sean Sherk and Joe Stevenson. He has also fought for the welterweight title against GSP at UFC 94. With a defence of his lightweight title he will be pushed up to welterweight. BJ Penn defences his title against Frankie Edgar at UFC 112 on 10th of April.
6. Jose Aldo (16-1)
Current WEC featherweight title holder, he is on a 6 fight winning streak in WEC, including title win at WEC 44. Jose defends against Urijah Faber at WEC 48 on April 24th.
7. Jon Fitch (21-3, 1 NC)
Long term welterweight number two in the UFC, he has already beaten everyone but GSP in the UFC and looks to get a rematch with GSP providing he beats Hardy and Fitch gets passed Thiago Alves on the same card on 27th of March.
8. Mike Thomas Brown (22-5)
The number two ranked featherweight in the world, the former WEC title holder lost his title to Jose Aldo at WEC 44. He fights Manvel Gamburyan on same card as title holder Jose Aldo defends his title for the first time at WEC 48.
9. Thiago Alves (16-6)
The number three ranked welterweight in the world has had a very successful career in UFC, the 26 year old was a 7 fight win streak before title shot failed at UFC 100 against GSP. He tries to avenue one of his other losses at UFC 111 against number 7 Jon Fitch.
10. Shinya Aoki (23-4, 1 NC)
Lastly is the WAMMA lightweight title holder. Aoki recently broke fellow lightweight Sengoku champion Mizuto Hirota’s arm in a hammerlock at Dynamite 2009. Aoki has been courted by the UFC to challenge BJ Penn but is fighting current Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez on April 17th in Nashville, USA.
