Here is my top 5 ufc rankings for the Middleweight division.
1. Anderson Silva
2. Chael Sonnen
3. Victor Belfort
4. Nate Marquardt
5. Demain Maia
What more can you say about middleweight champ Anderson the spider Silva, he has beaten everyone thrown at him, he is unbeaten in the UFC and has destroyed two fighters stepping up to light heavyweight. His next fight is due against Demain Maia at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi.
Second is arguably Chael Sonnen most people dislike Sonnen, although his form as of late and the way he controlled Nate Marquardt at UFC 109 puts him number two. It has been questioned if he was not on a fight suspension he would be fighting Silva at UFC 112.
Third comes UFC and MMA veteran Victor Belfort, with only one fight at middleweight (actually it was catchweight at 195lbs) it is hard to push him into the title shot campaign but there is no question he has the striking to challenge Anderson Silva. Belfort pulled out through injury, it has been suggested he may be put on hold until the winner of Maia and Silva, be good if he got to fight Marquardt in my opinion.
Fourth for me comes Nate Marquardt, he was second before the Sonnen fight, he has put away everyone in the division, his BJJ and stand up are great weapons, shame about his wrestling defence was not stronger at UFC 109 but needs a win to put him back in the fold.
Fifth comes Demain Maia, he is improving and gets a title shot against Silva. He lost within a minute to Marquardt in the fight prior to last. His BJJ is awesome and he has the ability to most in the division, his chin is the worry and with the striking of Silva its going to be a hard first title shot.
