UFC 105 just got interesting!
Event: UFC 105
Location: Manchester MEN arena
Date: November 14th 2009.
Randy Couture the UFC legend is to fight outside the US for the first time in nine years and face lightweight contender Brendon Vera.
Couture, the former light heavyweight and heavyweight champion, has recently lost his last two fights at heavyweight, title fight against current champion Brock Lesnar and recent fight against fellow MMA legend Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira.
Vera has had the opposite recent run, he is on a two fight win streak, since his drop to light heavyweight, he is known for his confidence and has beaten other big names including former heavyweight champ Frank Mir.
What annoys me (personally of course) with UFC cards away from America and Canada is the fight cards are often bland and only offer local or European fighters. By offering a main card fight such as Couture and Vera it shows UFC means business away from the US and Canada.
I hope Joe Silva and Dana White can persuade more fighters to fight abroad especially in the UK so the cards don’t become a franchised UFC!
Anyway back to the fight, I can see this being the fight to test out Vera’s top contender tag and will see whether Couture’s age has caught up with him. I think a win for either will push them into a fight away from a title fight. 205 aka Light heavyweight is full of good fighters but maybe not a long time title holder unlike the lightweight, welterweight and middleweight classes.
Do not fear my usual predicitons to come closer to the date
