Hitwise has had a lot of SEO’s and webmasters questions their stats however, I came across these stats and thought I would throw my thoughts into the ring.
Google’s baby YouTube as you would expect is dominating the market in the UK, it used to be just videos but it firmly becoming a market place for advertisers, especially adverts and viral marketing campaigns, not to mention the film trailers have taken over. It was also a place where music video’s would be released and enjoy but not currently as Google couldnt reach any agreements – be interesting if it stays as popular as it is.
BBC’s very successful Iplayer has taken second place, this is by far the best offering for catch up TV and radio. The latest update is awesome and you enjoy some old tv programs also.
Google also takes up third place with Google video – some slight differences to youtube however many use it at their work places to get around the blocked Youtube.
Megavideo – which I have only used once is a well placed number 4, has more funny videos and has new music videos uploaded – although be careful has many have embedded ads which will take you off to a gambling site or worse.
Channel 4 sneak in with OD/catch “catch up” up service @ position number 7, their new approved service is definitely improved and you can watch your favourite shows from More 4, Channel 4 and E4.
